Progress Tracking

progress_trackingA construction project begins with a work plan that includes a budget, a schedule, and an engineered approach designed to complete the project in the most effective manner.

Progress can be monitored and tracked at different operational levels and MatriX is flexible in its approach to ensure the budget, cost and time constraints are adhered to, both at the detailed operational level and for the complete project.

Monitoring progress of work during fabrication and construction projects is an essential activity. It is common to find a series of spreadsheets being used to track progress but a well designed, customised application specifically built and tailored to the project requirements provides a more efficient and cost effective solution.

Progress information is used by various members of the team that may include a wide variety of personnel across many operational areas and departments.

Typical users of this information include, planning and production engineers, QA and QC personnel, fabrication and costruction supervisrs and managers, cost engineers and project managers and project engineers.

With spreadsheets, only one person at a time can have a file open in edit mode and the inter-linking of spreadsheets to consolidate information gets cumbersome and complicated. It is also very time consuming at project start-up time as the spreadsheets normally have to be populated manually. With a specific application it is possible to load and initialise data from other electronic sources and external systems.

The MatriX fabrication progress tracking solutions are based on the centralised database that already includes drawings, materials and other associated information. With a Matrix module information can be updated by multiple users and security features can be activated that limit updates of each item of information where relevant and specific to appropriate personnel.

Progress tracking facilities can be provided as a stand-alone facility or to work in association with other MatriX modules. There are significant benefits when using a customised solution with time saving by personnel, elimination of duplicate data entry and reduction in input errors, cost reduction and an increase in accuracy and quality of information.

In association with progress tracking functionality, it is also possible to provide a job-card application (also know as task sheet, work orders, job orders, work packs etc.). This method provides the details for fabrication / construction i.e. reference to the relevant drawing, including number, revision and issue date, list of the materials that will be required and budget man-hours to undertake the work.

One operational example of detailed progress tracking is the progress of pipe-work construction from spool pre-fabrication through the stages of erection, hydro-testing and quality control documentation completion. Read More...
