Material Takeoff / Bill Of Materials

Material Takeoff / Bill Of Materials SystemMatrix contains a powerful system for Material Take-Off which controls component information whilst providing Bills of Materials for multi-discipline projects of any size or complexity. Estimated man-hours required are automatically generated.

The main material requirements module, QuantimaX, is an MTO system that allows take-off based on entering item characteristics. These are automatically matched with an existing parts catalogue, with an option to automatically generate new part numbers as they occur.

This simplifies the process of producing Bills of Materials for projects of any size or complexity. Comprehensive estimating functionality is included to allow man hours to be obtained on an on-going basis as the MTO progresses.

QuantimaX covers all major disciplines and caters for MTOs at different levels to satisfy different requirements e.g Bulk MTO and detailed MTO and the piping module supports spool level MTO as well as Isometric MTO. Like all the modules in the Matrix suite a consistent user interface is provided with discipline specific variations as required.

Material Takeoff Item Details

QuantimaX delivers:

  • Automatic Part catalogue lookup and creation – this avoids manual errors, duplication and inconsistency when identifying part numbers.
  • A seamless interface with Purchasing by automatic export of the BOM.
  • Ongoing adjustments and recalculation of requisition Quantities through Bulk MTO, detail MTO and revisions.
  • A wide variety of reports and options to query the MTO details.
  • Interface to planning systems and material control systems (ControlmaX).)
  • Fast, accurate estimates, generated automatically from the bulk or detailed material and quantity take-off.
  • A modular style which is applied to provide functionality relevant to each of the operations described below.
Bill of Materials Report

Items are "coded" with "mnemonics" set up for each discipline e.g. for piping MTO; e.g. CS, 45L, BWF, 2 IN, SCH80. The methods adopted enable fast, accurate data entry and provide a comprehensive, unambiguous description in a consistent format.

Part numbers can be created either manually or automatically and subsequently linked with the material mnemonic set. Bulk drawings can be created to kick start the procurement process. The take-off line items can be consolidated by part number into a Bill of Materials that can then be loaded into a procurement application for pricing and / or purchase (e.g. ReqmaX / ProcuremaX).

As the MTO builds up, tables of norms can be set up to provide estimates on an ongoing basis.

Pipe Spool Estimating

Information is available for system interfaces in a similar manner to Structural MTO since the data can be developed to cater for links to Planning and Material Control as well as the Procurement and Estimating links described above.

All the QuantimaX modules interface with Project Estimating to enable the take-off man-hours to be easily and efficiently pulled into the tender document where further estimating and management analysis can be applied.

QuantimaX also interfaces to LoadmaX for weight control and centre of gravity processing and calculations and to the Welding QA/QC system to assist in the identification of welds and inspections.
